Choosing Your Moment
Not every strain fits every situation. Some flower lifts you up for a productive afternoon, some eases you into a restful evening, and some adapts to wherever you are. We label each product as Daytime, Nighttime, or Anytime based on its terpene profile, cannabinoid content, and the effects most consumers report. Here's what each label means and the science behind it.
Daytime Strains
Daytime strains are rich in terpenes associated with alertness and energy. Limonene, found in citrus fruits, has demonstrated mood-elevating and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects in animal models (Behavioural Brain Research, 2013). Pinene, the most common terpene in nature, promotes mental clarity and may counteract THC-related short-term memory impairment (British Journal of Pharmacology, Russo 2011). Terpinolene adds an uplifting, creative edge. These strains tend to be sativa-leaning hybrids with moderate THC-A levels, keeping you functional and focused.
Nighttime Strains
Nighttime strains are typically dominant in myrcene, the most abundant terpene in cannabis. A study published in Pharmaceutical Biology (do Vale et al., 2002) found myrcene exhibited sedative and muscle-relaxant effects in animal models at higher doses. Linalool, the terpene responsible for lavender's calming scent, has demonstrated anxiolytic and sedative properties (Journal of Ethnopharmacology, Linck et al., 2010). These strains tend to be indica-leaning with higher THC-A percentages, promoting deep physical relaxation.
Anytime Strains
Anytime strains feature a balanced terpene profile — no single terpene dominates. You'll often find a mix of caryophyllene (grounding, anti-inflammatory), limonene (mood lift), and myrcene (calm) in roughly even proportions. The result is a versatile experience that adjusts to your setting: enough lift for a morning walk, enough calm for a movie night. These are usually true hybrids with moderate potency — the all-rounders of the flower world.
Sativa strains are always for daytime and Indica strains are always for nighttime.
While there's historical correlation, the Indica/Sativa label describes plant morphology, not guaranteed effects. A 2015 interview study published in the International Journal of Drug Policy (Hazekamp et al.) found that experienced users could not reliably distinguish Indica from Sativa effects in blind tests. The terpene profile is a far more reliable predictor — a "Sativa" strain high in myrcene may be more sedating than an "Indica" strain rich in limonene and pinene.

Your Body, Your Clock
These labels are guides, not rules. Your endocannabinoid system — the biological network that processes cannabinoids — is unique to you. Factors like tolerance, metabolism, what you've eaten, hydration, and even your mood all influence how a strain lands. Some people find "Daytime" strains relaxing and "Nighttime" strains functional. Pay attention to what works for your body and use our labels as a starting point to narrow down your options.
